One Sheet Text

Produced by Chicago filmmaker Madeline Tourtelot, the 75' work shows Partch's hand-built orchestra of instruments performing an African and Noh-inspired story in some of his most compelling music in his mature style. Please note this is the first transfer of the film to video: Enclosure VII includes the same film, digitally remastered and resynched.

The video continues with the first release of The Music of Harry Partch, a 1968 San Diego KPBS-TV documentary featuring an outdoor performance of another Partch favorite, Daphne of the Dunes. Introduced by Will Ogden.

Cantrill's Film Notes

"They constitute a valuable documentary record both of Tourtelot's filmmaking and of Partch's music and theatre."
by Warren Burt

The British Harry Partch Society

"The great news is that thanks to the labours of Philip Blackburn,'un Hercules de nos jours,' the film of Delusion of the Fury, made by Madeline Tourtelot in 1972, in glorious colour, is now available on VHS video in NTSC or PAL format. In case the 72 minute film were not enough, a very rare American University student TV film is appended on the tape, bringing the total playing time to over 100 minutes, which indicates the video offers very good value. ...This is the only way to hear Harry Partch's last major work, widely regarded as very much the culmination of his life©ˆs efforts . . . Even if the appearance of this video somehow precipitated dilatory Sonic Classics into once more making their splendid recording of Delusion [available], the video is still extremely important; as Chris Cutler observed recently, it makes all the difference to this music be able to experience how the piece should look as well as how it should sound . . . this is undoubtedly the most successful of the Tourtelot-Partch collaborations, and Innova [has] done the world a favour in getting it available to anyone who wishes to see it and own their own copy."
