Innova announces the release of Stephen Paulus's A Chamber Fantasy; the first CD devoted solely to the chamber works of this well-known composer. The four substantial works on the disc represent a varied cross-section of his chamber oeuvre from 1981 to 1997 reveling in spectacular performances. The wide emotional pallette of the movements (represented by titles such as Dark, Playful, Fiery, Tenderly, Electric, Desolate) are mirrored by some of Minnesota's most accomplished classical musicians.

The many short contrasting movements of these works, and the approachable idiom for which Paulus is renowned, will reward music lovers with an engaging experience, and grow with each hearing.

Stephen Paulus, cofounder of the American Composers Forum, is a mainstay of major ensembles and orchestras throughout the world. His works appear on over 50 CDs. He is on the Board of ASCAP, and recently received an honorary doctorate from Macalaster College.

Proceeds from the sale of this disc will benefit the Thelma Hunter Fund, an endowment to fund commissions and performances of new music.

Reviews:

BABYSUE

"Extremely dreamy and fanciful in nature, Mr. Paulus' compositions are both thought provoking and calming. Intriguing in their subtlety, the compositions on this disc represent a true artist emerging at a particular point in time."

21ST CENTURY MUSIC

"A level of intensity and drive" effectively conjures up the ecstatic feel of the finale from Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time. "The listener is kept enjoyably off balance. It's a piece eminently worthy of this composer's sturdy reputation." - David Cleary
