ComposerŐs Note: This album is a collection of my chamber music output from 2015-2019, and a coalescence of four of the most magnificent chamber ensembles I have had the privilege to collaborate with. The outer works on this record, /ping/ and /chatter/, share a fascination with technology; both pieces include a minimal electronic element, but also musically explore the technological connotation of an onomatopoeia. Indeed, all of the works here seek to find a poetic angle to our tech-saturated lives. Piano Quartet: The Longitude Problem is inspired by John HarrisonŐs 18th century endeavor to invent the marine chronometer. Chamber Symphony re-imagines a traditional musical form, where musical themes have been replaced by gestures of kinetic motion and mechanical process. The title, New Cartography, is both drawn from the final movement of my Piano Quartet, but it also captures the essence of my own creative aspirations in composing these pieces: to explore new pathways to connect my musical ideas to each other, and to their extra-musical inspirations. - p.v.z.l.
