Once Again for the First Time featuring Patrice Rushen is the first CD by noted educator/artist Ron McCurdy as a leader.
After dedicating more than fifteen years to education Dr. McCurdy finally decided to change "hats" by assembling some of the best jazz artists in Los Angeles. Jeff Clayton, alto saxophone, Roy McCurdy, drums, Kenny Davis, bass and Shelly Berg and Patrice Rushen, piano represented the ensemble. This recording is a combination of cleverly arranged originals and a few jazz standards.
Dr. Ron McCurdy has taught at the universities of Kansas, Minnesota, and Southern California. He is currently President of the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE). Notable among the quintet’s stars are Kenny Davis, bass player for Jay Leno’s ‘Tonight Show’, and Grammy-winning composer Patrice Rushen.
DOWNBEAT
"Ron steps into the limelight as a jazz artist, an impassioned trumpeter, flugelhornist and composer whose artistry, good cheer and comprehensive jazz knowledge make Once Again for the First Time an immensely appealing and substantive date." - Chuck Berg
