A little view into the process behind my piece for Traffic Jam 2019! The project features Austin's most abundant (and controversial) commodity: transportation gridlock. We captured Kate's motorcycle for the purpose. Bryson created a digital instrument from the recordings, which I'm putting to use for the piece and will be intertwined with live sound from the three different motorcycles and other instruments. Directed by Steve Parker, the FREE performance will also showcase road rage music (performed by Austin Soundwaves, Henna Chou, James Parker, and Seetha Shivaswamy), an amplified playset landscape for wooden car and trucks (Matthew Steinke), a fleet of musical bicycles (Laura Brackney), choreography for kiddie cars and sensors (line upon line percussion), an examination of the parking garage as a musical instrument (Mark McCoin and Max Bernstein), as well as symphonies for carhorns (played by YOU!). Austin's own new music sextet, Hear No Evil, will premiere my piece "Cabinet of Curiosities" as part of Tetractys New Works THIS SATURDAY, May 11th at Imagine Art! Get Tickets @ bit.ly/tetractysnw The title is inspired by the sixteenth century emergence of the "cabinets of curiosities" trend, referring to notable collections of objects featuring assortments of items belonging to natural history, geology, ethnography, archaeology, religious or historical relics, works of arts, and antiquities. Sometimes faked but often real, merchants and early scientific practitioners of science highlighted their cabinets in much the same fashion as rulers and aristocrats, forming collections that were precursors to modern museums. The piece will premiere alongside two other newly commissioned works by high school student Mack Felix (a collaboration sparked by Golden Hornet's Young Composer Concert) and Butler School of Music student Aaron Sanchez. I'm making music in an island paradise alongside a small group of other artists from around the country, as well a fantastic staff. This upcoming Tuesday begins one of my favorite weeks of the year: Fusebox Festival. I highly recommend Rude Mechs (Austin, TX)' "Not Every Mountain" and am particularly looking forward to seeing how Justin Favela will make "piñata" a verb on the fest's Hub, Janet40's "Li Po", Adrienne Truscott's two performances, and many others. It's all FREE, with reservations required for certain events. I'll be speaking as part of "The Art of Science" Waffle Chat on Thursday 4/18 at noon, ahead of the three performances of Golden Hornet's "The Sound of Science" featuring Jeffrey Zeigler. In 1991, Cameron Todd Willingham's three daughters died in a Corsicana, Texas house fire. Tried and convicted for their arson murders, Willingham was executed in February 2004 despite overwhelming expert criticism of the prosecution's arson evidence.

Today, Willingham's name has become a call for reform in the field of forensics and a rallying cry for the anti- death penalty movement.

Equal parts murder mystery, forensic investigation and political drama, INCENDIARY documents the haunted legacy of a prosecution built on "folklore."
